AWARD-PEDS: diabetes in youths

NCT02963766 ↗

Dulaglutide

What was tested?

Dulaglutide versus placebo in youths with type 2 diabetes, followed by an open-label extension. ↗

Registered primary question: Change in HbA1c at week 26, pooling the dulaglutide groups. ↗

What the reviewed report found

Journal year 2022 · Article summary reviewed 2026-09-15

Glycated hemoglobin decreased in the dulaglutide groups and increased with placebo. BMI change did not differ between groups; gastrointestinal adverse events were more frequent with dulaglutide.↗

Keep in context: The placebo-controlled comparison lasted 26 weeks; participants originally receiving placebo then received dulaglutide. The later extension is not another concurrent placebo comparison. ↗↗

AWARD-PEDS: glycemic control in youths

Design in the report
A blinded randomized placebo-controlled study evaluated a 26-week primary endpoint, followed by an open-label extension.↗
Participants in the report
The trial randomized 154 participants aged 10 to under 18 with type 2 diabetes.↗
Limitations
The primary outcome was glycemic control, not cardiovascular events or long-term complications. The short blinded period limits longer-term conclusions; PubMed links subsequent correspondence.↗
