Design
A sponsor-funded, open-label randomized Phase 3 trial compared oral octreotide with injectable somatostatin receptor ligands after an oral run-in selected biochemical responders.2
Population
Ninety-two adults with acromegaly who had previously responded to injectable therapy and then completed the oral run-in as responders were randomized.2
Outcomes reported
Biochemical response was maintained by 91% of participants assigned to oral octreotide and 100% assigned to injectable therapy; the adjusted comparison met the prespecified noninferiority criterion.2
Limitations
The open-label trial randomized only oral-run-in responders, limiting generalizability to people who had not already tolerated and responded to both treatment forms.2
