Cagrilintide: phase 2 weight management

NCT03856047 ↗

Cagrilintide · Liraglutide

What was tested?

Cagrilintide compared with placebo and liraglutide in adults with overweight or obesity, excluding diabetes. ↗

Registered primary question: Percentage change in body weight at week 26. ↗

What the reviewed report found

Journal year 2021 · Article summary reviewed 2026-09-20

Reported mean body-weight reduction ranged from 6.0% to 10.8% across cagrilintide groups and was 3.0% with placebo. Gastrointestinal events occurred more often across cagrilintide groups than with placebo.↗

Keep in context: The trial included 706 randomized participants in total. The active groups were not masked from one another; the masking concerned active treatment versus placebo. The report distinguishes trial-product and treatment-policy analyses. ↗↗

Phase 2 weight-management trial

Design in the report
A multicenter, randomized, placebo-controlled and active-controlled dose-finding trial assessed body-weight change over 26 weeks. Participants and investigators were masked to active treatment versus placebo, but not to the different active treatments.↗
Participants in the report
The trial randomized 706 adults without diabetes across 57 sites in ten countries, including 99 assigned to liraglutide and 101 to pooled placebo. Participants had obesity, or overweight with hypertension or dyslipidemia.↗
Limitations
This was a sponsor-funded, 26-week Phase 2 dose-finding study in adults without diabetes, with a short off-treatment follow-up and no long-term clinical-outcomes assessment.↗
