CLARINET: neuroendocrine tumor progression

NCT00353496 ↗

Lanreotide

What was tested?

Lanreotide versus placebo in people with nonfunctioning enteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors. ↗

Registered primary question: Time to tumor progression or death, with assessments scheduled through week 96. ↗

What the reviewed report found

Journal year 2014 · Article summary reviewed 2026-09-15

The hazard ratio for progression or death was 0.47 (95% CI 0.30–0.73). Overall survival and quality of life did not differ significantly. Treatment-related diarrhea occurred in 26% versus 9%.↗

Keep in context: The report describes 204 randomized participants; the registry lists 264 enrolled. Improved progression-free survival in this report did not demonstrate improved overall survival. ↗↗

CLARINET: neuroendocrine tumors

Design in the report
Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial over 96 weeks.↗
Participants in the report
204 people with advanced nonfunctioning, somatostatin-receptor-positive grade 1 or 2 neuroendocrine tumors; most had stable disease before enrollment.↗
Limitations
The selected tumor grades, receptor status and largely stable baseline disease limit generalization. Progression-free survival is distinct from longer overall survival.↗
